The Detroit Chapter of Herbalists Without Borders emerged during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, grounded in mutual aid and informed by a community survey identifying a need for accessible, plant-based wellness. We began by producing and distributing free apothecary kits, collaboratively made from herbs grown in our collective gardens, to promote both self and community care.

Since then, we’ve expanded our offerings through seasonal workshops, public programs, and skill-sharing events focused on local, native plants and intercultural herbal knowledge. I’ve supported this work not only as a program organizer but also by designing communications assets, including branded visuals and email newsletters to foster consistent community engagement and broaden our reach.

Our next initiative, the Apothecary Kitchen, will be a licensed, food-safe facility with open hours for Detroit-based herbalists to safely process and prepare remedies. As part of this intercultural, volunteer-run organization, we remain committed to health justice, increasing access to natural and botanical wellness, and uplifting traditional and community-based healing practices.
